今作のゲームシステムはSRPGでユニットを配置して戦う。
レベル上げのような作業はなく、まじめにプレイすればほとんど負けずに終章までたどり着けるだろう。
過去のランスシリーズにあった理不尽な負け戦と再挑戦の繰り返しはなく、かえって物足りなさを感じるところもある。

今作はヒロインとの個別エンドが用意されており、フラグ回収を要するが、一回のプレイで複数ヒロインの条件を満たすことができ、ヒロインの数だけプレイし直すようなことはしなくていい。
過去のランスシリーズに比べると、遊びやすさがかなり高い作品だった。
